This is one of several pieces of 'Handcraft' pattern items from Carlton Ware available now.

The Handcraft series was introduced in the 1930s with quite a selection of alternative designs and colourways made available. Currently, the entire range is highly collectable with increasing prices for some of the scarcer designs.

This one is a delightful small Squat Vase in the 'Flowering Papyrus' range, decorated with geometric handcraft designs in blue, yellow, mauve and black on a white ground.

It measures just over 3 inches (8 cms) in diameter and it has a height of 4 inches (10 cms). It is in excellent condition with no chips, nibbles and no crazing. Internally, in the base, there has been some oxidization of the paints drops mistakenly left there prior to glazing. The glaze around the inside has some variations in the off-white colouring.

It is backstamped appropriately. Pattern 3242 and shape 465.
