Carlton Ware Fantasia Art Deco Enamelled Large Jug/Pitcher - 1930s - SOLD
£0.00
It's not often that such a gorgeous Carlton Ware item crosses our threshold but, at long last, an Art Deco Fantasia Jug/Pitcher has arrived.
Not quite immaculate but as near as I think we're likely to get after 80 or so years of use.
The Fantasia design consists of an exotic bird, beautifully enamelled which has a swallow-like tail, floating amongst a selection of exotic flowers and foliage similarly enamelled, all set on a blue ground.
The first versions of Fantasia were introduced in 1929 and the design is by Violet Elmer.
It measures 7.5 inches (19 cms) in height and has a similar measurement for the width between spout and handle.
The is the traditional style of gilded rim along the top edge which has some very slight rubbing to the spout and some light scratching on the top of the handle. For good order's sake, it should be noted that one of the enamelled 'spots' appears to have not been fully completed before the glazing was applied and there is a tiny scratch on the body of the Jug.
It is backstamped appropriately. Shape Number 494 and pattern 3421.
