W & R Carlton Ware Blue Lustre Gondola Large Bowl - Early 1900s
W & R Carlton Ware were always involved in the artistic periods of the time but never at the forefront and in this regard, the art nouveau period is no exception.
This traditional 'Gondola' shape was (and still is) very popular during this period, available in quite a few assorted patterns and enamelling. This one is a straightforward yet quite delicate Blue Lustre externally with a mother-of-pearl lustre interior.
There is gilding on each handle and around both the rim and the underside where four gilded feet support the Bowl.
There is very slight rubbing to the handles and to the top rim whereas the underside seems untouched. A minute trace of crazing to the base underside.
It measures 13 inches (33 cms) in length and stands 5.5 inches (14 cms) tall.
It is backstamped appropriately with the W&R backstamp and is dated to 1925/26.
